Good-Bye to Dining "Au Velo"

I am not a summer person and will take the cooler temperatures of autumn and spring any time. But one thing I will miss about the warm days, is being able to eat outdoors with our bicycles. Remarkably, this has been possible to orchestrate at most of our favourite restaurants and cafes. But considering how quickly the temperatures are dropping, the days of dining "au velo" are numbered.

Here Marianne and Miles stand in the alleyway of a Harvard Square cafe, right behind our table. No doubt this is one of their last outdoor dining experiences of 2009.

  1. The pictures went blooey. Same thing happened at CycleDog, though his were some other repository than yours.

I've seen the same thing down here in Dallas, though our temperatures are still what you would consider high (it was nearly 90 today). I think cyclists notice the shortening days and the temperature changes much earlier than the motoring public.

Please disapprove this comment and I'll do a proper one when the pictures are fixed.

  2. Yes, I will miss eating outside, too. Chicago is like a different city when all the sidewalk cafes are put out. I can't see the pictures that go with this post, but I'm sure they're lovely :)

  3. I've uploaded the photos to my own server now and linked from there. It seems that Blogger has been doing strange things to my images lately.

  4. Y'all ought to come down here, we're just getting INTO the "eat outside" season!

PS: The photos show up peachy keen now. Blogger IS a strange beast upon occasion.

  7. I am hoping for some lovely Autumn days ahead, but the season has been really weird here so far. Summer ended as if on command over Labor Day weekend and the temps have been plummeting since. It will be fun to stay in our unheated cottage on the Cape!

  8. Just starting to notice the trees changing and the corn starting to turn brown out here in the Heartlands. Temperatures are about the same as they have been all summer, very unusual weather for an Iowa summer. I hope to be wrapped up and back to NC in time for the great fall riding weather. ;-)
